1. How to reset my Okta password through the Okta login page

Below are the steps to reset your Okta password. 

Step 1 – From the state.okta.com login page, click "DOS Users: Forgot your OpenNet password?"

Step 2 – After clicking that link, you will be redirected to the page below. Type in your @state.gov email address and follow the prompts on the page to reset your password.

Step 3 – After resetting your password, return to the state.okta.com login page, and log in to your Okta account using the password you just created.

2. Reset the Okta Verify Multifactor Authentication Tool or Mobile App to get a 6-digit code 

I am having issues getting the 6-digit code to appear on my phone or mobile device.

4. How to Unlock Your Okta Account After Too Many Failed Login Attempts

This section provides instructions for Okta users to unlock their Okta account after too many failed logins attempts.

When you have made too many failed login attempts, you will receive the below email. Follow the "OpenNet Users" instructions:

Send an email to the IT Service Center for assistance including additional contact details such as phone number and “Okta Account Lock” in the subject line.

5. (@state.gov) - How to Reactivate Okta after Suspension (60-89 days)

To unlock your account (state.okta.com) after 60 days of no use, follow these steps:

• Email the IT Service Center
Send a message to ITServiceCenter@state.gov with the subject “Okta account unlock”. Include your full name, job title or department (if applicable), and a brief note requesting help to unlock your account. Feel free to add your phone number for follow-up.

• Call for Support
Reach out to the IT Service Center directly by phone at (202) 647-2000 if you’d rather speak to someone or need quicker assistance.


• Submit a ServiceNow Ticket (if Requested)
If the IT Service Center replies asking you to submit a ServiceNow ticket to the SE-ICAM/Okta Team, follow their instructions to complete the process.

6. (@state.gov) -How to Reactivate Okta after Deactivation (90+ days)

If you have not logged in to state.okta.com within 90 days, your account will be deactivated, and you will be required to go through the registration process again. To reactivate an State Okta account, users must work directly with the Bureau of Diplomatic Technology to restore their accounts. Please submit a ServiceNow ticket to SE-ICAM/Okta Team.
